Apple M2 is official at WWDC 2022 underway at Apple Park in Cupertino. We’ve seen iOS 16, as well as watchOS 9, now let’s focus on hardware component of the Californian company, destined to take the legacy of the first generation.
The M2 SoC was made with a 5nm second generationis formed from 20 billion transistors (25% more than Apple M1) and with 100Gbps of memory bandwidth (50% more than M1), up to 24GB of unified memory and new cores dedicated to efficiency and performance guarantees 18% higher performance than M1. It is also 1.9 times faster than the latest 10-core chip for laptop PC.
- performance 18% higher than M1
- GPU performance 25% better than M1 (35% at full power)
- NPU performance 40% higher than M1
The new generation chip improves in all respects, including support for 8K video and especially the new 16-core neural engine with 40% higher speed than M1 capable of performing up to 15.8 trillion operations per second. Apple says systems with M2 will be able to play multiple streams of 8K and 4K video.
